Wednesday Workshop: Cinema 4D - E4 poster

Task:
Our task was to use the 3D animating software, Cinema 4D to create images in order to re-create either a sting or poster for the E4 channel.

Illustrator set up:
We first had to download a pre-existing E4 logo into Adobe Illustrator and from there, into Cinema 4D. During the Illustrator set-up, prerequisites included moving the centre point of the image to be compatable with C4D dynamics, reduce the boarders to fit the image and to save the file as illustrator 8 for compatability.

C4D project template:
Before we began rendering our logo in C4D, we set the format to render settings and changed the dimensions to millimetres (297 X 420). Then we set rendering to "current frame" which enabled all frames to be subjected to rendering and animation.

C4D display settings:
To complete compatable display settings, we selected; mode - view settings then tick Action Safe and Tinted border.

C4D scene set up:
Firstly, we created a background object and a floor object to set a scene for our logo. We next created a material with a texture and colour and applied this to our floor and background to create a solid base and back-drop (this applies to any objects we create in the future).

C4D import logo:
To import our logo on to our C4D scene, we selected; file - merge - purple.ai file. Then we created an "Extrude Nurbs" object which would make our logo 3D. To do this, we simply dragged our purple logo onto the Extrude Nurbs. The settings could be adjusted if needed, such as width, height and density of the 3D effect. This process was repeated for the white part of the E4 logo.

C4D colour logos:
As described before, we rendered objects by creating materials. Here, we made 2; one each for the white and purple part of the E4 logo. After adjusting the texture and colours of the materials, we simply dragged the materials to the logo objects and grouped the objects and materials to make one layer.

C4D adding typography:
To create 3D text, we selected; MoGraph - MoText object. A text box provided allows you to write in your desired text that will apear on your screen. After adjusting the depth, width and height of your text, you can add another material (customizing the colour and texture) to your MoText object. Lastly, if desired, add a "Bend Tool" to curve and warp your text.
